Almost lost a Knit Boy!!

On my way to work this morning,in the rain,I lost control of my car!! I came very close to hitting another car head on!! In a nutshell,I did several 180's,finally just let go of the wheel,slammed on thebrakes,and did a 360 ending up tailend first into the side of the road.Once I got m nerves back,I went to work,sat in the car and prayed. Thanks be to God that you all still have a Knit Boy!

What a weekend!

Well,this has been a busy two days. Yesterday we had a Holiday Make N Take at work,and Donna and I manned the knit/crochet table. Of course,we were just doing a demo,but the crowd we drew in was great! Kevin (assistant manager) had me working on the looms instead of hand knitting,and that really did well! We sold a lot of the Knifty Knitter kits,as well as the guide books!! I worked on a pair of slippers and a hat. The hat got done,and I'm almost through with the slippers!

The hat is done with Paton's Classic Wool in Gold and Black. I held 3 strands together. For the tweed part,I dropped one strand of Gold and replaced it with Black! This was done on the green loom.

As you can see,the slippers are done on the blue loom. I used two strands of Red Heart Super Saver in Camoflage. I used Meilynne's pattern on her Yarn Gear site and made the foot 32 rows passed the heel. These are perfect bed socks for my big ole boat feet!

Today,I went to Barnes and Noble to stand in line for 2 hours as to get a book autographed for my Popsicle. The author...Senator John McCain!! He's really a nice man,but I noticed that he has small hands. And I had no idea that he's 69! He looks and acts a lot younger!!!

While standing in line,I was able to finish off my Crochet Garden Winter Hat. This puppy is not (NOT) going into my store cuz I will not (NOT) be making another one!! It looks and feels great,but the work is too much for a hat! Asweater I could see,but not a hat!!

I don't really like doing cables in crochet,but these look good. Not as good as knitted cables,mind you,but good. This one I'll wear myself.

Two new hats

Yesterday and this morning,I worked on two new hats for my online store. Both are pretty cool if I do say so myself. The first one is the Skully Hat. I'm pretty proud of it,as it's my first attempt at intarsia...

The other one is a Rasta hat that I crocheted this morning waiting to clock in for work. I had a lot of fun making it up as I went along,and I've decided to call it the Dean Hat,in honor of my friend,Dean,who told me that I needed to make a "narc" hat,and to give him half the profits for the idea! Whattya think,Dean?

Well,I finished the first stocking this morning while waiting for the store to open. Here it be...

On a much cooler note,I finally got my coy of the new Knit.1!!!

Many of the patterns are for guys,but more importantly,they acttually talk to guy knitters and crocheters!!! Rock on to my buddies,Drew (http://thecrochetdude.blogspot.com) and John (http://mybigfatneedle.typepad.com)!!! These guys are the coolest of the cool!! Well,except for yours truly. LOL!! Christmas stocking 1,part 1

Last night after finishing the Seraphina shawl,I decided to get started on my commision work. The first bit is two stockings for a day care center that need to be delivered before Thanksgiving. Yeah,and I waited this long to do them.
Last night,I charted out the pattern that I came up with,knit the corrugated rib cuff and the charted part. Today I finished off the leg,heel,and gusset. Needless to say,my fingers are cramping. I hope to finish this stocking tomorrow and get the next one started on Tuesday.
At any rate,here's where I stand on the first one. The lighting is not good,so it's hard to tell,but the background of the stocking is hunter green.

In the picture,it looks like the Santa's are screaming,but they don't give that affect in person. I hope.

Helmet Liners

At the store where I work,I have been asked to put on an event where we'll have people volunteering their wool and time to knit and/or crochet helmet liners to send to our troops overseas. I've also asked the guys in my Yahoo group that I moderate to participate if they like.
The helmet liners are really needed as the ones that the military issues are acrylic,and we all know that acrylic is not really that warm. And most people don't realize how extremely cold our soldiers get in Afghanistan,Iraq,and Kosovo in the winter. We're talking Brrr! cold.
So there it is. If anyone of my dear readers would like to participate,email me and I'll send you the info needed.
To let everyone know what these things look like,I made one. So here I am modeling a helmet liner. I can tell you two things for certain. One-they are quite warm. Two-they make me look a lot better.

A few weeks ago,my local LYS had a Halloween sale,where everything was 31% off. Well,I didn't have much in the disposable income area,but I allowed myself a small bit of yarn. One purchase was 5 skeins of a beautiful light green worsted wool called Galway Highland Heather.
This morning,I pulled out that yarn along with my "K" hook and got to work on my fave pattern,the Seraphina shawl.
I've done 3 pattern sequence repeats,and here she is so far...

I cannot wait for this shawl to be done! I love it so mouch already,beacuse the yarn is glorious and has such a great hand to it,that I've decided that even though I am a guy,this shawl will be mine!!! I just need to get together a bunch of Stevie Nicks songs together to dance around to!! LOL!!!

Me and hats

So,every Thursday at work,we have a Sit N Stitch,where customers are allowed to bring in whatever project they wish to work on,plop down at the table that Laura and I set up,and stitch away. It's very informal,and a total blast! We give impromptu classes,help each other out with projects,and laugh a lot.
This past Thursday,I decided to make myself a traditional tam. I did a 2x2 border for 10 rnds,increased every 2nd stitch,then knit plain for about 20 rounds. In this 20 rnds,I placed a traditional peerie pattern...

Once those rounds were done,I thought about the fact that me and traditional just don't match! Ergo,this bit...

I don't know if you can tell,but these are bobbles,done on every third stitch with a purl round before and after the bobble rnd. Then onto the decreases. This all went well,but somewhere along the way I goofed and ended up with a slight point at the top of my tam. I grabbed the purple yarn again,and added an I-cord knot to accentuate the point...

One done tammy...

Laura's poncho

Well,I finally finished Laura's Coming Home poncho,after having to reapair a big mistake in the body. The yarn was a plus as it really has some great varigation in it. Is that a word? Varigation? I don' kow. Anyway,I'm posting some pics,but because of my crap webcam,you really can't see them too well.
Also,I'm almost finished with Mom's prayer shawl,and am beginning crocheted baby blanket.

I was all set to finish off Laura's poncho today,but when I started the border,I noticed that I had made a huge mistake in the body of the piece,so I ended up frogging 6 rounds! ARGH! Well,now I just have to work on it like a mad man to get ready to give to her on Tursday. That means all other projects are put to the side for a bit.

A good day ruined

Today was supposed to be a really good day...and it was for most of it. The sun was shining. It never got too cold. I found some great yarn at the local LYS. It was all on sale. Taught my niece to use the loom,and she's almost finished with her very own hat. Had a tasty veggie lasagna for dinner. And right when I go for my second helping,my brother starts screaming at my mother about the kids and the fact that he has "no GD (he actually said the word) respect for you until you show respect for me and stop telling the kids what they can do!" After a point,I got my dog,left my plate,and came to my room. Now my dinner,appetite,and day are ruined.
Working on my 4th TTT hat for the day though.

Today I received my first package from Graceful Stitches,and I'm so hyped!! For those of you that aren't familiar with GS,thery're an organization that is completely volunteer,all the way to the store. You sign up,they send you an item they want done,along with pattern and yarn,you knit it up,send it back,they sell it,and ALL the money goes to cancer research!! Way cool!! I'll be doing a cute little baby sweater for my first project. I just need to get some size 3 needles. I'll show it off as it progresses.

Mexicana fun

One yarn that I always have in my stash is Red Heart Super Saver in Mexicana.

The reason is because I love the mixture of all the colors,and the fact that no matter what I do with,I never get the same patterning twice. That being said,I decided to use my fave yarn for some TTT hats. This is what I've gotten so far...

I wish my camera was better,and that I had more light in my room,but hopefully you can get a basic idea. The top center hat is Mexicana alone using double stitch and a single strand. On the sides are Mexicana and blue yarn as well as Mexicana and white yarn. These two hats are done in single stitch since the yarns were doubled. The bottom hats are also single stitch with doubled yarns. Each one is Mexicana doubled with (l-r)purple,yellow,and green. My next two will be black and red held with Mexicana.

The big thing right now on a lot of the blogs that I read is to do a Google search with your name plus the word "needs". So I tried mine. Since my name is spelled pretty weird,it didn't work. So I used the Anglicized version of my name,and here are the 8 things that came up.

A little greed

Okay,so I've been working like mad on all these hats for TTT,and also doing my commisiion work. Well,today I decided to be a bit greedy and make something for myself. Or at least start it. So I dug into my stash and found some roving that I had been meaning to play with. So I used my wheel and spun some bulky yarn for the brim and some for the body (two different shades). The brim yarn is natural gray and the body is dyed with tea. Both are Coopworth wool. Instead of setting the twist,I decided to work straight from the bobbin. Here's the hat fo far,with the brim done,and 1/3 of the body...

You really can't see the body yarn too werll,but you can get the basic idea. I haven't decided yet,but this hat may get fulled a little bit. I'll see after it comes off the loom.

A Little barter

As most of you know,Laura's been giving me hats that she's doing on her loom. Well,we made a deal at the beginning of all this, and I'm starting to fulfil my end of it. The deal was that she would make me some hats to give to TTT and I would make her a "Coming Home" poncho. She bought the yarn and I had set it aside while I worked on the prayer shawl. Today I started the poncho. It'll be my Sunday and Thursday project until it's completed. Here it is as of now with 11 rows done...

I wish it iwas clearer,but you can get the general idea. One day I'm going to have to buy another camera that I can carry around with me instead of using my webcam. My digital got lost in the move,so there that is. Anyway,off to watch DIY.

AC Moore festival

Today was the AC Moore (where I work) Fall Craft Festival. We did a ton of tables up, and sevearl of them were make and takes. Donna and I got put on the yarn table where she crocheted and I knitted. She worked on an absolutely beautiful wrap using Boa, and I started a Pereline poncho. We had no one really visit our table. At least not until I put away the poncho due to sore wrists, and pulled out my KK loom. Then we were flooded!!! Several adults were interested. Sold one kit, and one red loom. Also let a coupla kids play with mine (under my eye). The best though was a lady whose daughter has cerebal palsy. The girl will be learning to loom knit now!! She can only use one hand, and this is a perfect way for her to be crafty!! YAY!!

Sometimes it's pure luck

Today I got off work with enough time to hit the local thrift shop. This place is only open on Fridays from 1-4 and Saturday from 11-1. One of the ladies at work has been bragging about all the yarn she gets there,so I had to hit the place today. Got out of the car,and there stands Laura!! Apparently we had the same idea.
Once inside,we found the only bag of yarn in the place. Inside was a bunch of gorgeous wool in three shades,some patterns,and a good bit of Crystal Palace and Clover bamboo needles!!!!! FOR THREE DOLLARS!!!!! The whole bag,all goodies included-THREE DOLLARS!!!!!!!!
Being the good friends we are,Laura and I split the cost and split the goodies. I got 6 cheeses of wool 3 sets of needles,and one circular needle. This was my even take. Laura got 6 cheeses of wool,3 pair of needles,3 orphan needles,all the patterns,and a tape measure.
Did I mention that all this only cost us THREE DOLLARS?!?

Prayer shawl-finished?

Well,I just took my prayer shawl of the loom and it really came out nicely!! I'm so proud of myself, being that this is the first large item done on my knitting looms. Now all I need to do is decide wheather or not to fringe it. What do you think,gentle readers?

On a different note,the second Knit In at work went really well! We didn't have as large a turn out as we did last week,but I think today's group ahd more fun. We were really laughing hard today!! The manager stuck his head around the corner a coupla times to see what was going on! LOL!!
Also,Laura gifted me with 6 more hats for TTT today,which brings her total to twelve to be sent out with mine,so togther we are at 29!! YAY!!

The shawl continues to grow

As I stated earlier,I only will be working on my prayer shawl during the weekend and on Thursdays,so I spent alll day yesterday working on it. It's really coming along nicely,and the color is just too cool. Some of you asked me quite awhile ago about the color,and I think it's Fuschia,but can't tell you for sure as mill ends don't have labels on them. Anyway,my goal is to have a shawl that's fingertip to fingertip in length,and then add the fringe. So I've got oonly a little ways to go on it. I may be able to finish it during the Knit In on Thursday,and once it's done,I'll get onto working on Laura's poncho. Adfd that to all the preemie caps I'm making....whew! Anyway,here's the shawl so far...

As far as the preemie hats go,I'm presently working on my 19th hat. I will have to get 82 completed by the 25th of November to meet my goal of 100,but I know I can do it!! Okay...later taters!!

The first Knit In

The first of the AC Moore Knit-Ins was a blast!! We had a lot more people come in than I expected considering the nasty weather,and so I'm really happy! Including me,there were 9 people there. Laura and I both worked on our looms (me on my shawl,her on a preemie cap),3 ladies crocheted,2 ladies were knitting,and one of the ladies had brought her granddaughter whom Laura taught to crochet and loom knit. I hope the group will conitinue on and grow grow grow!!
In other news,Laura gave me three more hats yesterday,so my count is up to14 premies hats. 86 more to go by November 25th!! Will the Knitboy do it? Damn snappy he will! LOL!! The loomed shawl continues to grow,and I have a commision from Laura to make her a Coming Home Poncho that I'll be starting soon. I have so many irons in the fire right now that it's scary,but it's fun!

Can't stop the looms!

I've become so addicted to making these preemie caps that it's insane!! I've come to the conclusion that I'll have to schedule myself,so I'm going to make at least one preemie cap on Monday,Wednesday,and Thursday;two on my early days which are Tuesday and Friday;then I'll work on the shawl during the Knit-In's on Thursday and all day Saturday and Sunday.
My goal is to get 100 preemie caps done by November 30 so as to mail them out to TTT. I think i can do it! So far I've got 6 of my own done,Laura's 3,and another on the loom right now.
Add all this to my hand knitting and crochet work,and I'm gonna be busy for quite some time.
A lot of people have asked how I'm making my shawl. You just use all the pegs on the yellow loom,and make a flat panel by working back and forth instead of in the round. There's a small video on this at

So,I'm leaving work today when Laura catches me at the door and says to me,she says,"Tater! I have a present for you!" Well,I'm all atwitter coz I loves me some presents! And she hands me these...

Ain't this great!?! Laura bought her a set of looms on Saturday,and after making her grandson a beanie,she made these premmie caps for me to give to TTT!!! The woman is such a dear friend!! I love you,Laura!! The cutie green hat and Cutie pink hat were done with two strands of baby yarn held together with the Cutie yellow one using one strand of worsted and one strand of baby!!

Looming a shawl

Saturday after I got off work,I strolled over to the mill ends bin and picked up two pounds of Lion Brand Homespun in a wonderful reddish purple color. We had the mill ends on sale for 3.75 a pound,and with my employee discount,I ended up paying 6.36 for two pounds. Not bad,huh?
Anyway,yesterday morning,I grabbed my yellow Knifty Knitter loom and started a prayer shawl on it. I'm about half way through the first skein,and it's coming along nicely.
Has anyone else used the looms to make a shawl? I'd love to hear from you if so.

A smashing success

That's the only way to describe the Knitting Party we had at AC Moore today!! Laura and I really worked our tails off. The two of us knitted (her on a scarf and me on socks),Donna and Tanyette crocheted,Ruzanna was on a Sew Easy Knitting Machine,Cathy working looms,and Lisa going to town on a Clover Wonder Knitter. The looms and the knitting got the biggest draw,and we were packed!!! I can barely talk right now from having to talk non stop for 6 hours,but it was all worth it. Two thousand dollars of yarn sold in a 4 hour period!!!!!!!! Our store was second in dollar amount and first in percentage through the entire company!!!! YAY!!!!
And no,Betty never thought to deem us with her prescence. Yeah,the lady in charge of the yarn never showed. Well,guess what? We did GREAT without her!!!!!
Next week I have a class to teach as well as starting a weekly knit in at the store. Can you say one busy Knit Boy?
I just have to say thank you to everyone that helped me out today. Thank you to Laura (my partner in crime),Cathy,Lisa,Donna,Ruzanna,and Tanyette!! You guys really made this event happen!!

More preemie beanies

I've gotta admit..I've become quite hooked on my looms! Today I finished off two more preemie hats fot Teeny Tiny Treasures. Both were done in single stitch using two strands of worsted weight yarn together. One was done in Brenat Baby Softee using Denim and His Jeans held together,while the other was done in Red Heart Super Saver using one strand of white and one strand of Bikini. I think they really turned out cute! Unlike the first one,these two also have brims. I hope you like them.

A little Loomy

So what have I been up to? Well,I just got finished with my first knitting loom project. I decided to join a group of loomers and make a preemie cap as my first thing. I used the blue Knifty Knitter loom and REd Heart Super Saver in Wedgewood. For those of you that never used a loom before,it does take longer to do than hand knitting,but it's also a little more portable as you don't have to pack up any needles. So here's my preemie on and off the loom.

Woerk wise,things are going really well. Well,okay,I guess. We had a visit from the owner's daughter yesterday,and the only real complaint she had on the floor was the fact that the yarn department didn't have enough samples,and that most of the ones that we do have are scarves. Well,duh. The only people that work in the store that make samples are Laura and myself. She's part time,and I don't work in that department at all. So,here's 2 people with a lot of yarns to have to use,we have to use our personal time to make the samples (though we do get paid),and we both have other things going on. We make what we can,and scarves are easy. So...now I'm going to make a felted hat,and Laura's figuring something out for her new samlpe.

Also,Saturday we're having a knitting event in the store to really push the yarn department. We've got Laura knitting,two people crocheting,one person on a round loom,one person on a rake loom,and one person a spool knitter. And one person on a knitting machine. And me running around trying to make evefrything run smoothly cause they've put me in charge of the whole deal. Did I mention that I don't work in that department? Yeah,the woman that is in charge of the yarn area says she's not wasting her Saturday doing stuff like that. Fine. I wonder if she's noticed how many people come in and specifically ask for "that man that knits"?

A little madness begins

So I've completed the BSJ,and now I desire something very basic to work on as a carry about project. Yes,I am required (by my own mind) to have a "carry about" project at all times. Course,my BSJ was my at home/carry about/down time project,but now I have a separate project at home,so...
Anyway,my OTG project is from the latest issue of Spin-Off magazine. It's a wonderfully designed beanie that's reversible. This one has a garter stitch brim that's worked straight,joined later to form a circle,and then each part of the beanie ois picked up from the edges. So I've started the brim,which has (gasp) 167 rows of garter. Yeppers,167 rows,or 83.5 ridges. So I am now on row 35.
If you hear screaming in the air anytime in the next week,it'as because I'm working all this garter! LOL!!!

The Finished BSJ!!

After 7 days of working on this thing,I have finally finished the Baby Surprise Jacket! As stated before,I used 1 skein of Bernat Baby Softee in Denim and 1 skein of Bernat Baby Softee in His Jeans. The Denim was the main color,and I used the other for the stripes. The variegated yarn really made the stripes come alive in my opinion. I did the entire thing on size 5 circulars that are 24 inches long. The only negative in my jacket is the seam. I just don't like the way it turned out. I also ereally hate picking up stitches,even if it is only 20 total. Now all I have to do is choose some buttons and add those tomorrow. At any rate,it always amazes me when I think that this...

cute little jacket by just seaming it up. This partucilar jacket with a gauge of 5 sts to the inch is supposed to fit a 1 year old. Since I don't know diddly about baby sizes,I'll go with that.

My next project is for Annie Modesitt's new book. Since I'm not supposed to show the work being done on that swater,as it will be a published pattern in a book next year,I'll continue to also work up some smaller projects to share along the way.

Sahara (Sistahcraft) asked me how I got the music onto my blog. Actually,you can scroll to the bottom of the page and see the accompanying video. Anyway,go to musicgalore.net,and click onto the Videos area. From there,look for a song and/or vieo you like,click the icon that kinda looks like a page,and you're given the html code. Copy that and then paste it onto your settings sight for your your in the "template" area (remembering that wherever you put it,it will stay there,so aim for the very top or bottom),save the setting,and viola!
Don't worry about me getting busted for knitting while I was sick either. The people at work all know that the only thing that would keep me from knitting is me literally being too sick to function at all. My Mom actually judges my sickness by wheather I can knit or not. If not,she makes me go to the doctor. If I can still knit,I just need to either stay in bed or have a bucket nearby. LOL

I am so happy with the way the Baby Surprise Jacket is growing!! I'm now up to row 59 of 115,and it's really looking good. The only thing is the fact that I wish I had read the directions a bit more carefully. I'm using the pattern out of "The Opinionated Knitter" and I only noticed the 5 st to the inch gauge,so that means my BSJ will fit a one year old. Oh well,it's okay. The recipient will just have to wait a little longer before wearing it. But here it is at its present stage...

Like I said,it's really coming along nicely. In other news,I got my yarn for the Annie MOdesitt sweater in the mail yesterday. It's an ultramerino,and I've never felt such creamy soft wool!!! Given the choice of getting paid to be in the book or keeping the sweater,I've already decided to keep the sweater! This baby's going to be beautiful!!

Now,on the music front,if any of you crave Irish music like I do (being Irish helps),then you must run out and buy the CD by Celtic Woman. The five women in this group are phenomenal!! They have a version of "You Raise Me Up" which is wonderful,a "Harry's Game" that's great,and their version of "Orinoco Flow" blew me away!!! Buy this CD. You will not be disappointed.

My sick day

So what does a Knit Boy do when he's too sick to go to work? He knits,of course!! I've been spending the day working on my Elizabeth Zimmermann Baby Surprise Jacket. I'm working it on size needles and using Bernat Baby Softee in "Denim" and "His Jeans". I've gotten 24 rows done on it,and this is what it looks like so far...

I kniow that these aren't the best pictures in the world,but it's kinda dark in my room right now as I have a major headache,and the light is a bit much. I plan on doing another 24 rows tomorrow before,during,and after work. There are 115 total rows on this piece,and so I think I should be able to knock it out in no time.

In other news,guess who's been tapped to knit a sweater for Annie Modesitt's new book. Come on-guess! I'll give you a hint. He looks like this...

I just finished my multi-directional scarf and I'm so happy with the way it turned out!! I used 1 skein of Red Heart Super Saver in Watercolors and size 7 needles. Iris's directions were so easy to follow,and that made this scarf more fun to work. I also really love the way the yarn striped itself perfectly. When I chose this yarn from my stash,I was just hoping to get a decent scarf. I never expected it to come out so beautiful!! So,without further ado,I give you my Watercolor scarf:

I couldn't get the whole thing into the picture As I had to hold the camera up with one arm while trying to use my mouse with the other arm to click the icon,but you can see that it turned out nicely. I added 12" fringe to each end. Okay...later taters!

A Few Changes

Okay...first of all,you may have noticed a few changes on my blog. For some reason,everything on my sidebar has dropped down to the bottom of the page,so if you wanna see my links,just scroll down. You will also see the video that accompanies the music that you now hear! Pretty cool,huh? I may do some more changes later on. I don't know yet.
Yesterday after work,I made a trip to my LYS. I haven't been there in quite some time,but I'm glad I went,and I'll start going back more regularly. While there I picked up these items...

The yarns were a great find! I've not seen a self striping sock yarn in woersted before,and I prefer a thick sock,so I'm stoked about that. The gray yarn is Debbie Bliss merino/cotton blend. bucks a skein!!! Unfortunately,they were in the bargain bin (obviously for that price) and there were only 5 skeins left. So I only have 500 yards. I think a shoulder shawl is in the works. I also went ballistic with the Zimmermann books. Obviously. And I've been meaning to pick up Iris' book for awhile.

Not much else has ben going on. My cousins are coming in today to stay the weekend. That'll keep me busy,. And tomorrow I have to work a scrapbooking fair at work. I know nothing about scrapbooking,so I don't know what I'll end up having to do. Anyhoo,I'll see ya later!!

A little catching up

I thought I'd pop in a play a little catch up. Let's see....what's been going on? Well,I'm about to start the 6th triangle on my multi-directional scarf. It's coming along so wonderfully! The stripes that the yarn creates on its own are just beautiful!! I'll post a pic later.
At work yesterday,I was informed that on top of doing the receiving (which is my job),I'm also now in charge of the frame department. For the month that I've been there,I've been helping out in yarn,but what was really going on was that I was doing all the work in that department. The merchandiser there was just piddling about letting me do her work for her. I didn't mind at all coz,you know,yarn! But the powers that be decided that it's not fait for me to do the work and she get the rewards,so now I have my own department.
I've been reading "The Eyre Affair" by Jasdper Fforde,and it's a lot of fun. My reading list is growing larger and lger! After this book,I have "Sideways","The Left Hand of Darkness",and "The Chronicles of Narnia" waiting. I picked "Chronicles" after work yesterday coz I saw the ad for the movie the other night,and it looks like it's going to be incredible! So now I want to read the book before the movie hits in December.

I love the book called Mod Knits by Iris Shierer (whose name I guarantee I just spelled wrong). I've been drooling over at Barnes and Noble since I discovered it on the shelf,and will be buying it this Friday. Anyway,I decided to do a multi-directional scarf as she describes in her book,and mine is in Red Heart Watercolors. I think it's turning out pretty good. I started it yesterday,and here it is so far...

It's a little dark in my room right now,but I think you can see the colors ptretty well. What I love is the fact that the yarn is doing all the pattern work for me.

I mentioned before that I'm able to knit and crochet samples for my work place. Well,another perk is the fact that I get to teach classes! This past Saturday I taught my very first knitting class. It was a class on knitting in the round,and I had everyone make a beanie. The only drawback was the fact that I didn't quite time it right. I figured since I can knit a beanie in an hour,the average knitter could get one done in three. I needed another hour,but it's cool. I told everyone that since I screwed up that they could come to the next class for free,or that they could meet up with me at work and I'd help them out that way.
I was really excited about the class, and I ended up with 6 students. One of them was almost completelt finished with her beanie by the end of the 3 hours. Three of them were just getting statred on the dpn's,one was almost to the end of the 25 rounds that I had them do before the deccrease points,and then the last one had 7 rounds done. This lady was a pure beginner,so I had to teach her from the ground up. I hadn't planned on teaching how to knit in general,but it was fun to do that as well. She was extremely nrevous,but she caught on really well. I hope I gave her enough confidence to keep going.

Store samples

Part of the fun of working at AC Moore is the fact that I get to make store samples. Basically,they let me bring home yarn,I make it up into whatever strikes my fancy,they hang it up so that customers can see what can be made from the yarn,and I get paid for the time! Woo hoo!
Well,I decided to use Lion Brand's Chenille Thick and Quick for the first time,and after choosing one of their patterns,this is what I made...
Like I said,I have never used this yarn before. It works up really nicely,and felt good going through my fingers,but a total bugger to seam up!! And don't even think I took the time to weave in the ends! I figure that since it's going to be on a board over the yarns,and that you actually need a ladder to get to it,no one will ever know that I did't weave in the ends. I know,I know,but that stuff is just not made to be woven in easily,and it's 5 in the morning. Gimme a break! LOL!!

The move continues

Okay,yesterday I finally was able to get the furniture moved. Now I can start to actually unpack some of my stuff and start putting it all away. Let me tell ya,after working all day unloading freight,putting up stock in the wood department,and dealing with FedEx freight,the last thing I wanted to do was moved furniture! But it had to be done,and I'm glad that it's over. All that's left to do now is get the food that I have in the old place over to here and clean up and I'll be officially moved.
I was asked where I moved to. Okey dokey,here's the deal. As some of you know,I just bought a new car. I knew when I bought it that things were going to be tight,but I was okay with that. It's only 24 months. Well,the insurance made things even tighter! 125.00 a month! Mom steps in. She offers to let me stay with her,pay her what I was paying in rent but eliminate the utilities and food and all I have to pay for is the car,the insurance,and my brown bagging it to work. Coolness! So that helps me a lot. Also it helps Mom. Over the summer,she took care of bro's kids while he was at work,but bro didn't buy any food or help with gas or anything like that,so Mom got really strapped financially. Being a substitute teacher,all she had money-wise over the summer was her SS check and her retirement. So now she's brioke. The money I'll be giving her will help exponentially. That's my big word for the day,btw.
So there it sits. I live with Mom until the car's paid off. We've already worked it out where I can pay double payments every other month,bank the rest,and at the end of it all I'll have paid off the car in 16 months instead of 24,banked enough to make a down payment on a rent to own house or condo,and established my credit pretty well. It seems that at 41,I'm finally growing up a little.
Oh,and the place is in Prosperity ,Calvin.

Moving

Well,the move to the new place has been going on for two days now,and it ain't been fun. I really hate moving. And this is my 8the move since I left home. ugh.
I can't get through to Bellsouth to move the DSL,so right now I'm using AOL dial up. Talk about slow,man!!! I cannot wait to get my DSL back. Course with the way Bellsouth is going right now,it may be awhile. Supposedly they're really backed up due to Katrina. I was on hold for thirty minutes yesterday,an after all that time,a recording came on and told me that "due to technical difficulties,we are unable to transfer your call at this time. Please call cack at a later time." And I was promptly disconnected. I honestly believe that the "technical difficulties" were the employess saying enough's enogh,and just hanging up.
Oh well,I must get ready for work.

First I'd like to apologize for being gone so long. I've been extremely busy,physically,mantally,and spiritually. And I've been extremely tired physically,menatlly,and spiritually. So now I'm back. Unfortunately,I may not be on for quite some time.
You see,I'm moving in a coupla days and I don't know if BellSouth will let me just move my DSL. The place I'm moving to already has phone service,so all I need is DSL. We'll see what happens when we get there. I may have to go to AOL or Earthlink,and then only be online in the early mornings before work. We'll see.
So here's the skinny. I've been doing major beanies! I'll post pics later tonight or in the A.M.

Hurrican Katrina is still in tyhe news (and will be for quite some time) due to the destruction in LA. And Dubya'a not really planning on helping these people. No,he's too busy worrying about HIS war in Iraq and keeping HIS ass out of harm's way. It's time HE did something here and leave the rest of the world alone.

His beanies are all made from naural fiber,and he calls them Pussy Caps! They really are nice,and you can see them at http://www.pussycaps.com.

Anyhow,I thought it was ironic that the man that didn't want to pay 40 dollars for a cap is charging 100 bucks for his. Ironic though it is,I admit that I plan on buying one because they are incredible!!! But,to hold me over until I get my own Pussy Cap,I took one of his pictures and figured out my version of one of Tom Clark's beanies...

Well,after many years,I finally told a dear friend of mine that I am gay. You see,five years ago,he came to my door... a dear .sweet 19 year old boy on his mission. We talked,we became friends,I became a Mormon. I was very active in the church for about 3 years,but I hid my homosexuality from everyone involved.When I left Rock Hill and moved to where I live now,I stopped going to church and started living my life as I felt it could best be lived. Oh,and the debauchery therein. But I did return to God,just not to the church. I have been church hopping for quite awhile now,but I never returned to the Mormon church. Dean and I remained friends after he left to go home. We've talked on the phone and through emails,but I never came out to him for fear of losing his friendship. Five minutes ago,I sent him my email. Probably the last contact we eill ever have. I told him how much I love him,and I told him that I know God still loves me...gay little me.I had to get that off my chest.Thanks for listening. My friend,Laura,designed and crocheted at hat to be used as a model at AC Moore the other day. She used a new yarn called Katia Nepal. It's really quite beautiful,and her hat is too cute!! But,it's a rather feminine hat. So I took the apttern home (we have copies of our patterns available to the customers) and tweaked it just a little. I used Wool Ease Chunky in Charcoal,did the first even round in the back loops only,and left off the flower. I think what I came up with looks kinda like the Artful Dodger's top hat...

Okay,I look a bit psychotic in the picture,but ignore that! LOL!! Also,when I left work today,I brought home this lovely yarn to turn into a sample...

It's a DK weight yarn that's called Peru. It's 70% merino,20% alpaca,and 10% silk. It's luxurious to the touch,and I love the deep purple that I chose. It's desitined to be a babushka that will be a store model. I'm beginning it tonight.

Well,I finally got the Christmas stocking for AC Moore done. Now all I have to do is typre up the instructions. I'll be honest with you here. When I first started this project,I was a bit excited about it. I mean,I was getting to design my own Cheistmas stocking!! But after the first two days,it became work. I mean,it dawned on me that this was a work related project,and the fun of it just dissapated. Does that make sense? Anyway,here it is...

It's actually green and red,but the green looks black in the picture. Also,there's tinsel running through it that you can't see here. Now I can start working on my projects!!!

I just finished watching the movie "Sideways". If you haven't seen this film,please do. It's incredibly beautiful. And two of the characters,Miles and Maya;I wish people really did talk the way they do. Words just fall from their mouths like a gentle rain. These two characters,whenever they speak,it's just beautiful.
I have to say that I cannot stand Thomas Haden Church. He's ugly and not funny,nor incredibly bright it seems. But even his character,a total pig and ass,was good. And I love Sandra Oh. See this wonderful film.

I received an email from a reader saying that I wasn't followign the first rule of life mentioned in my last post because "you are taking credit for creating something you didn't create".
Where in the post did I say that I created the piece? Or even alluded to the fact? Just because I didn't give the author's name doesn't mean I'm taking credit for writing the piece. That's the whole purpose of sayin "Something to share..." I'm sharing a piece of written work.
Some people need to stop trying to take evrything so literally. I don't know who wrote the Four Rules of Life. They were emailed to me by a friend. Did he take credit for writing it? No. Did he give me the writer's name? No. Did I assume that he wrote it or tried to take credit for writing it? No. Why not? Because I never assume anything. All you do when you assume is you end up making an ass out of u and me.

I've been asked to make a sample for the Christmas yarns at AC Moore,where I work,aso I decided to do a stocking. What else? Well,as usual,I'm designing this piece on the needles,and here it is after 3 days of work...

The black looking bits is actually a bright green,but my indoor lighting aiin't that great so... At least you can see the sparkly bits. I'm at the point where I'm about to add the green to do the heel. The trees were designed this morning,and I guess they turned out okay. You can't tell from the pic,but some of the stitches are a little loose. Note to self...don't attempt color patterns at 4 o'clock in the morning.

On the book side,I just finished reading...

I love a good mystery,and this one satisfied that. It's not a great read as the writing is a little elementary,in my opinion,but the concept was good,I enjoyed most of the characters,and loved the knitting bits! Maggie Sefton is no Monica Ferris (read her Crewel World series for a great mystery read),but she'll do.

Now I'm reading...

I just finished the first section. I can't call it a chapter as it spans a month. Anyway,the entire first section is an introduction to the two main characters,who they are,how they meet,what they do. The writing is very good,but I'm waiting for something to happen here. Also,I wonder if the author knows anything about knitting for real. She was one of the major characters finish off a wedding ring shawl,a teapot cozy,and make a pair of mosaic socks all in the course of 3 days. I don't think so. It would take one whole day just blocking the shawl properly. This same character can also tell the micron count of a yarn just by touching it. Um. Anyway,so far so good.

You know you slpet hard when you wake up in the morning,and you're exhausted from sleeping. That happened to me last night,and I've been tired from it all day long. I just couldn't function today,and work was a beast. I had to learn how to take care of the damaged merchandise,and the guns kept locking out. Plus we were slow,so there wasn't much to do. Nothing to do means boredom,which leads to sleep.
I did bring home a coupls skeins of Christmas yarn as I'm in the process of designing and knitting up a stocking to be put with the yarns. We make up a lot of models for the yarns so customers can get an idead of what they look like. Basically,we do a ton of scarves. This will be the only thing in the stocking realm that I think has ever been put out. Hm.

Had to get up early this morning to beat the rush to the laundry mat,and I figured that I'd take along an easy project to pass the time. So I designed another stash buster scarf. I found some electric lime green Caron Simply Soft and a ball of unmarked yarn that was lime green and feathery stuff twisted together. Anyway I held them togther and used my Q hook to work up a keyhole scarf for my niece,Cecilia. It took an hour to do as I'm not good with that size hook yet,and the funny thing is that I knew how many rows I wanted to have,and I had just enough novelty yarn to finish it up. Here's a pic,but it's really bad. Sorry about that.

Today,while taking a break from the poncho,I decided to fish through my stash,and try to sort it out by color. Yeah,right. Anyway,while doing that,I came across some pink mohair that I had gotten from a friend that was getting rid of her scraps. I pulled out some pink worsted and my brand new "Q" hook and just thought I could come up with. I started crocheting,and the pink yarns got me thinking about Melissa Etheridge,who is surviving breast cancer. That got me to thinking about my old childhood neighbor,Brenda,and my dear friend,Laura,who are both double survivors of breast cancer. So I crocheted with them,and all the other beautiful and courageous women who have survived this terrible disease. And I crocheted and thought about the beautiful and courageous women that didn't survive. And,friends,this scarf is in remembrance of all of these women! Applaud the ones you don't know...hug the ones you do.

1 skein of Caron Simply Soft Brites in Watermelon
1 skein of Katia Ingenue Mohair in Hot Pink
Size "Q" hook

Holding one strand of each yarn together,chain 9.
Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining chain across. Ch 1 and turn. (8 sc's)
Sc in each sc across. Ch 1 and turn.
Repeat until pice is 5 feet long. Give each end a good strong pull to lengthing the stitches.
End off.
Wrap 1 strand of each yarn around the back of a dinner-table chair 16 times and use for fringe on each end;8 per end.

I tell ya,this week has been a killer! We've been resetting the yarn section all week as we have a lot of new yarns,and it has been a blast and extremely tiring at the same time! But the colors and textures and I'm rambling coz I'm so excited and tired and someone please stop me! LOL!!
It has been a lot of work,but I wouldn't trade it. A basic rundown of my day is set up the front porch display,meet Fed Ex and go through all the invoices,deliver all the boxes to the proper departments,meet UPS,go through those invoices,deliver those boxes,then help in whatever department needed. That's three days of the week. The other two days I add on the breaking down of the truck and delivering those packages and go through the invoices from the truck. Fun,huh? Actually it is. I like to be busy. There's too much Irish in me to allow me to sit still. The Irish are a relaxed people,but we have strong work ethics.
I've added socks to my list of WIP's. I'm working a pair from some wonderful Paton's camel colored wool. So nice. We also just got some pure alpaca in at the store,and I'm getting some for some socks out of it. mmmmm.

Well,another good day at the new job. Came home sweating like a pig,though. I have got to get the AC in the truck fixed!!! Anyway,onto the purpose of this post...WIP's!!
My first one is the Multi Directional scarf that I mentioned last night. I almost have the 6th triangle done,and the piece is looking very nice.

And a few minutes ago,I started the Branching Out scarf...

I have 25 rows done on it.
The Multi is being done on size 7 circ's using burgundy and tan Red Heart. The Branching OUt is also being done on size 7 circ's,but I'm using Luster Sheen fingering weight on it. And I won't no grief about using acrylics!! LOL! I'm sorry,but I use what I have on hand and/or what I can afford at the time. The Knit Boy may be prolific,but he's also po'! LOL!!

My firstest day!!

So...how was your first day at AC Moore,Knit Boy? First off,any job that lets you wear jeans and tees to work rocks!! No more uniforms for the Knit Boy!! Yay!! I will say that this job is a little more physical work than WD,but it's all basically in one area,so I'm not running around trying to find my butt like I was at WD. Major plus that. Basically my day is work the packages that come in,put invoices into the system,clean the stockroom,put out the frot display,and then help anyone that needs help. The coolness meter was awy up today cause I got to help in the yarn dept.!!! We've got all kinds of new yarns in the back that we need to make room for,so the whole area is being redone. The only negative is that there's no ac in the stockroom where I spend most of my time,so water bottle is definitely finding a home there!! Oh,and I don't have time to really work on my knitting there like I could at WD cause I only get a 1/2 hour lunch,and with my swallowing problem,it takes me that long to eat,so...But I get home earlier,so knitting time is still there!!
On the knitting front,I'm working a scarf that's multidirectional. I found it in the book Modular Knits. I changed the color scheme from yellow and blue to burgundy and tan. I just finished the 3rd triangle,and it really looks nice. I'll take a picture after I get more done on it to show you all. The cool thing is that it builds on itself,so there's only 3 ends to weave in at the end of the piece. It's all in garter stitch and uses short rows,which I've never dreally done before as I don'y usually like them,but it really gives a nice effect in this scarf. Using the short rows gives each triangle a diagonnal or bias look,and that really looks good on the striped sections.
Okay,I guess that's all the news that's fit to print. Oh,speaking of news,Peter Jennings...you will be missed.

Today I got the opportunity to play with some new yarns! One of them is from Sirdar called "Tuscany" It's absolutely gorgeous!! It's got metallic yarn,featheray yarn,and vibrant plain yarn spun together and it works up in such a fun way!! The little bit I did reminded me of Mardi Gras!! Can't wait until it's on the shelf!!
The other is Caron's Boucle. This yarn was fun too,but I had to be careful with it. I'm a speedy knitter and this yarn broke when I went too fast. The core is a bit fragile when speed knitting,but once I slowed down,it was nice too work with. I was using it to make a scarf,but the whole time I kept thinking of bath mats. When I buy this yarn,it will be crocheted into a lovely rug.
Well,nothing else really happened today,so later.

Well,today was my last day at Winn-Dixie. I hung in for 6 hours,and when I left,I was happy,but also a bit misty. I was able to say good-bye to everyone as a group cause they were all in ameeting with Bi-Lo,so I just walked in an said my goodbyes. I was choking back the tears,though. Jeff,the manage,is being really great about everything. He's gonna keep me in the payroll system through next week,so that if they need help,or I need a little extra income,I'll be able to pop in and do a little work. Isn't that nice? He has done so very much for me over the years. I love you,Jeff!
Anyway,during the day,I was given really sweet card,a cactus plant,and a cake! They had me crying a good bit of the day. I'm going to miss my friends there. But,Monday I begin my new job at AC Moore!

The Maltese Hat

Well,I spent most of yesrterday working out an adaptation of EZ's maltese fisherman's hat,and I think I did pretty good. I've been in love with the look of the hat ever since I saw it years ago in Knitter's Almanac,but I'm not a fan of thick yarns like EZ used in her pattern,so yesterday I pulled out my size 7 circ's and some worsted and started one off the cuff.
The original used a 24 st cast on,but I cast on 44. After the shaping of the flap I cast on more sts to gve me a total of 72 sts,whereas Elizabeth had 56. These two steps were really the only major changes. My other changes were really simple. On the original,where the extra sts are cast on before going into the round,that little section was done in knit on e rnd,purl one rnd to get a garter edge. I continued the garter part all the way around the hat. This keeps it consisitent throughout. Then at the decrease points,I worked an skp where EZ did p2tog. I personally don't like the purl ridge in the decreases.
Anyway,here's what I ended up with...

Now to get on that baby blanket I've been putting off. It's done in sport weight on 9's in feather fan. I found a really cute variegated to work it in. Hope it comes out nice!! Later taters!

I must have done something wrong this past week cause the people are coming out of the wood work!! Now I have a list mom from a Yahoo group (which I'm too much of a gentleman to name) telling me that I'm doing a horrible,terrible,unconstitutional thing!! I'm mentioning my blog in my posts to the group! OH MY GAAAHH! Can it be?!? The Knit Boy is a horrid person?
She actually said that I have posted 10 times in July,and that my posts all mentioned my blog. Okay,um,I'm inviting people to see my work so they can enjoy my stuff as much as I enjoy their items. I do not feel like posting my pics in the group albums for 2 reasons. . That's why I have a blog. 2. The groups only get so much space to post pics in,and you can't post yours if there's no room. How do ya get room? By asking people to delete their pics. Ummm...not fair.
Also the called me vain! What? She actualy said I'm vain! Now,correct me if I'm wrong,but vanity is being hung up on yourself. Right? But,this is my blog. My journal,and the entire reason to have a journal is to talk about yourself. That's not vanity,that's the point of writing a blog. Right?
She also went on to say that if people want to keep coming back to my blog that they'll bookmark and come by on their own,that they don't need to be reminded. And what about new members/ I mean,the list gets a chunk of posts a day and I honestly don't believe that many people are going to fish through all those to look for blog posts. Whatever.
So to keep bitchy witchy happy,I will no longer mention my blog in my posts,except in my signature.
Oh! That reminds me,she also said that I'm rude because I cross post. Okay,I am a member of several knitting and crochet groups,and I like to let them all know about my work. The only way to do that is to cross post. Now,I do not send one email to all the groups at once. No no. I send them each separate,individual emails. If there are members in each group that are in other groups,oh well. I cannot say that I'll post to her list only about my projects. That's what she obviously wants,though. Well,tough toenails,lady!! You ain't the boss of me!!! You don't like it,boot me from your precious group,cause I do not need you in any weay shape or from!!!

Okay,apparently today was Dad's day to screw with me. I called him at his house to get some info from him and he asked me about the job offer. I told him I got it. So he says,"Well,don't start there until Winn-Dixie closes next Saturday." I tell him that they need me to start on Monday,so this Friday is my last day,to which he replies "Don't do that! If you leave Winn-Dixie before they close you will ruin your whole life! "
What? How in the name of all that's holy will my life be ruined if I leave a store that ain't even going to be there after next week? Will someone please explain that? When I asked him how that would happen,he actually said,"Never mind,I souldn't have said anything,should I?" Like that was going to make his completely idiotic comment go away. What is with my family all of a sudden? And I have to deal with these people on Sunday for my b-day party. I may not even go.
What am I going to do?

I finally have my Kiri shawl done and I am soooo glad!! It honestly got to be a bit monotonous after awhile. I love it though!! The only problem I'm having is the dreaded stockinette curl is still there even after blocking. Not so bad,but there nonetheless. I may end up having to do either a row of single crochet or a fringe edge around it to keep the curl out. Anyway,here it is...

All I have to do now is decide on the edge dealie,weave in the ends,and Phyllis will get her new shawl tomorrow morning!! Now onto the next project!!

My b-day

Well,here it is,my 41st birthday,and how did I spend it? Well,I went to an interview at AC Moore,then went to work at Winn-Dixie. The folks there gave me a cake which I of course shared. Then I find out that I got the job at AC!! Yay!! My last day at WD is Friday!! The WD boss is really cool with it as BiLo takes over soon. In fact,next Saturday is the last day of business for my WD. Sad. So anyway,I'm bouncing off the walls having a really great bday,and I'm telling all and asundry my great job news and Mom comes in and has to start bringing me down. She's all.."Are you sure you thought this through?" "Are you sure you wouldn't rather stay and work for BiLO?" "blah blah blah blah".
I love Mom,I do,but she does this every flipping time I start showing any sign of happiness. OKay,I 'm going to honest here folks. I am now 41,and the only time I have ever been happy,seriously,is when I worked in a video store. Mom nagged and moaned and complained and shiited gold bricks that I wasn't doing sometthing better than that,and "How in the world can you possibly enjoy working in a place like that?" Well,after 3 months,the company moved me to a new town,paying for entire move btw,and gave me 2 stores to run!! This from being a part time cashier. For 5 years I worked for them,and those were the only 5 years I was ever happy. Now I have a shot at happiness again,and she has to shit on it. And of course she denies it all when confronted. Please.
So my birthday went from really great to me being in a pissy mood at home watching a bad movie. Happy birthday Knit Boy...

It has now been raining for 4 straight days!! Granted,it's not as hot,but the Knit Boy is getting moss on the brain!! Well,my 41st b-day is in 2 days,so I went out and got my ear pierced to celebrate!!! Now back to my knitting!!

Spent the day at AC Moore,like I do every Saturday,and had a blast!! It was Nickelodeon day At the Moore,and we hada special guest...

This was as close as I could get without being turned into footwear for children!
Also,while I was there,I was able to get another 24 rows done on the Kiri. Very happy with that!! 56 more to go,and then the edging!! Yay!! The great thing about being at AC Moore is the fact that I can help people with questions about knitting and crocheting. Laura is always so busy with working in the store itself that a lot of times she's unable to sit down and show someone a certain stitch or technique. That's where The Kint Boy comes in! I volunteer there just for that purpose. And I do love it so!! In fact,I'm applying for a job at AC on Monday! Or at least setting up an appointment to talk to the manager!! Wish me luck!!

The Kiri...so far

Well,I've been working on my Kiri shawl for a day and a half now,and it's coming along really well. I decided to use Paton's wool in Camel (a worsted weight) and size 10 1/2 needles. I'm through with the patterns 62 rows and am going to add 8 more repeats,or 80 more rows and then the edge. The original pattern calls for a lighter yarn tht only uses 62 rows and the edge,but the worsted needs more than that. The cool thing is that I'm not even through one ball of yarn yet!! Yay!! So here's the Kiri at 62 rows. Hope you like it!!

The Completed Seraphina

Well,it took a week,but Laura's Seraphina Shawl is now done!! Here's a picture of it,but I don't have enough good light in my apartment to show the colors,so you'll have to wait until Saturday after she gets it to see the coloration of this shawl.

My next project is the Kiri shawl for another friend. I'm doing it in Paton's wool in Gold. Hopefully it'll work out nicely.
Also,the Knit Boy has been busy making a little video and as soon as it's ready,you'll all get to meet the Knit Boy!! Okay...later taters!!

Well,I've completed one skein on Laura's Searphina Shawl,and it's getting nicer and nicer. Here are two pics of it so far. The first one isn't too good,but it shows the length of the shawl on me (from the front). The second one gets the color much better! Later days!

Not much really to report today. Did a little work on Laura's shawl. I'm gueesing about 30 total rows will do it,but I'm not sure quite yet. I've done 15 so far,and the color changes are just incredible! I'm telling ya guys and gals,this Marble yarn is great!! I'll post a pic of it again after I get more done. This is just a rambling post today.
Went to Mom's house for dinner,and she made a wonderful potato casserole. I had that and some lima beans. It ain't easy being a vegetarian in a family of meat eaters,let me tells ya. But the Momscicle usually keeps some Boca Burgers in the freezer for me,just in case.
What else? Nothing really. I've been going through my pattern collection and finding a few things I'll be making soon. I need to stop with socks for a bit. They are great,don't get me wrong,but I need to make more than that. I'll keep a pair in my back pack though to work on at work and at stop lights and at the bank,but I'll also keep other things going here at home.

Chutes,ladders,and shawls

Not much to report today. The heat here in SC has been a bit overwhelming,so not a lot has been done. I was able to finish one Chutes and Ladders sock...

After it was complete,I made my weekly trip to AC Moore. They have some really great yarns there,and I went to pick up some more wool for the CIC (Children in Common) socks that I'm doing. Well,I did get 1 skein of Marble,a yarn I've never heard of before last week. It's coming along nicely. I'm working it,the second CNL sock,and I've started another Seraphina Shawl using Marble for my buddy,Laura. I started it once I got home,and here it is so far...

I've only gotten 8 rows done,but I think it's going to be lovely! I love this pattern,and the yarn that Laura picked out is just stunning. If you can find Marble,use it! It's incredible!!
What else,what else,what else? Oh! I know!! The newest issue of Crochet! magazine has a wonderful article on Men Who Crochet! The guys mentioned do really neat stuff. One even crocheted a tent out of grocery bags!! Oh totally cool!! The only thing that disappointed me was that there was no mention of the Dude!! Drew,you were robbed,man!! LOL!! Also got two other mags. The new Creative Knitting,whixch has a coupla nice patterns,and the new InKnitter,which has a beautiful shawl and two scarves that are dying to gey on my needles!! One scarf is done in kid mohair using an Estonian pattern!! Check the bugger out!!

So here I am again,in another blog! I know,I know...why can't this boy just stay in one place? Well,Seo was a great place,but someone started posting major spam in the comments section and ruined it for me and everyone else. Freewebs...well they locked me out until next month because I had over 900 hits. They said I needed to buy more space. Ummmm...FREE webs! ANybody else get that? Well,Blogger here,they're the best! They don't get bitchy about how many people visit. Okay,so I can't put music on,big woo. Okay,enough of that.
I have being going crazy at work since Wednesday. Winn-Dixie here in Chapin is officially becoming a Bi-LO,so we have to get rid of all the WD brands in the store. So to do that we have marked them all half off. Well,people can become real vultures during something like this. Needless to say,we're all very stressed. I mean,here we are busting our butts trying to sell out the WD labels;people are yelling at us because they don't want WD to leave (but they sure are happy to get that half off deal),and we're not guaranteed that we'll even have jobs after the change over!!
But during all that,I continue to knit. If I didn't have my knitting,I know I would have lost it by now. So here is my latest pair of socks. I knit them using Paton's wool in Denim Marble. They are,of course,for CIC...
